Grey Lite Theatre presents
"The Zoo Story"
"The American Dream / And the Zoo Story" by Edward Albee [Paperback] From the Director's Chair... A zoo places an intense variety of animals, some of which might be mortal enemies in other contexts, side by side. Albee's The Zoo Story also juxtaposes opposites. But instead of animals, humans become the opposing forces in Albee's societal cage. Emotions roar. Anger responds to bliss, confusion encourages understanding and knowledge desires ignorance. Jerry meets Peter, and like caged animals they react, in surprisingly similar ways. These parallels mirror each individual's internal duality, which when confronted, can expose an explosive reaction. Albee's realistic perspective presents a timeless viewpoint which can encourage realization, not only from diversified groups, but also of ourselves as individuals, forcing us to realize that our internal diversity makes us not so different from everyone else. Kendra Clauser is once again taking the director's chair after a four-year hiatus. Her directing resume includes Lord Byron's Love Letter in Three By Tennessee at First Presbyterian Theatre, Baby With The Bath Water at Purdue Indiana Theatre, and Dial "M" for Murder at Arena Dinner Theatre. She has also done performance pieces based on works by Bertolt Brecht and Donald Barthleme. Recently, being a theatre teacher and speech coach has given her the opportunity to utilize her directing potential. She would like to thank Grey Lite for the experience involved in doing Albee's The Zoo Story and to have the opportunity to work with three very important people in her life, Christy, Andrew and Todd. Cast and Crew Revealed Todd S. Frymier (JERRY) Todd does theatre, builds trees and sells things on the radio. Occasionally, he has been known to wear a strange hat and paddle off into the sunset (or at least to the shore.) If you went to see Jesus Christ Superstar, Todd wasn't in it, but you can see him in The Zoo Story. He hopes to be abducted by aliens soon. Andrew Gross (PETER) Andrew has done lots of shows with lots of theatres for lots of years. Job-wise, he works as a special education teacher, a job that tends to drive people crazy. He does theatre to stave off that craziness, but isn't sure it's working. For fun and relaxation, Andrew "does music," eats M&M's, raises birds, feeds his fish, enjoys nature and torments his cats-Grace and Ifit. And as always, Andrew wishes to thank his family and friends for their continued support and encouragement. Christy Reising (STAGE MANAGER) Christy is quickly becoming a technical goddess. During the past few years, while not on stage, you could have found her meeting the challenges of floor manager, prop manager and stage manager for many productions including Grapes of Wrath at the Civic and many shows this season at Grey Lite. By day, Christy can be found as the transcriptionist for Hoosier Radiology. She is thrilled to be able to work with a great cast and to have the opportunity to take this show to the Indiana Community Theatre Festival.
